Breakfast at Tiffany’s

Bucket List Item #1244 – eat at the Blue Box Café

New York, New York, USA

The rumors are most definitely true; you CAN have breakfast at Tiffany’s. You can have breakfast IN Tiffany’s.

I read about the Blue Box Café late last year. Tiffany’s had announced a café to open in their flagship store on the Upper East Side and, of course, I added it to my bucket list in a matter of seconds. It opened earlier this year and I have wanted to go for so long. Erin and I finally decided to make it happen, which was much more complicated than expected. It’s not exactly easy to get a reservation. They release 30 days of tables at a time, that fill up in a matter of minutes, and after that you can be put on a wait list through Resy. I set up about 20 notifications for different days and times. Then my inbox started pinging. “A reservation has opened July 8th at 2pm”. I’d open the email the second I saw it and the reservation would already be scooped. It took about a month until I got lucky. I literally opened my inbox the very moment the email arrived, and I finally got my reservation. Phew! So, if you’re looking to get a reservation plan ahead! Start this process a month beforehand, set up a bunch of notifications, and every time you get there too late set another one. And if you live in NYC and can be flexible even better!

If you haven’t been to Tiffany’s in the first place, then you need to. The store is beautiful and there are multiple floors of pretties to look at. I spent some time foaming at the mouth over some silver engraved dog bowls, as if my dogs should be allowed to have an item from Tiffany’s when I don’t even have one. SMH.

The café is literally everything you could dream of. It’s blue, of course: the perfect robin’s egg color like their namesake boxes with white accents. The waiters are wearing blue ties with their black suits. The dinnerware is blue and white, so chic, and you can even purchase the same plating in store. AND the pricing isn’t as bad as expected! Erin and I opted for the afternoon tea (technically we had late afternoon tea at Tiffany’s because I took whatever the fuck reservation I could get), and it was $52 a person. A la carte breakfast and lunch options run between $30 and $40, so I feel like the tea is actually a steal! It’s just way more fun to try an array of fancies rather than a stuffy, old plate. I just love tea time!

We got to pick our teas and got pretty substantial pots. It was paired with various finger sandwiches, scones and an array of tiny desserts. It was really a very typical tea spread with some little surprises in the menu. My favorite things were the romesco and asparagus finger sandwiches, cranberry and orange scones with clotted cream and the petit fours.

Of course, the wait staff was amazing, too. Very proper and cordial because IT’S TIFFANY’S!

We had such a good time. I felt like Blair Waldorf all dressed up and having tea at Tiffany’s. We got to play Blair and Serena for an afternoon. We even went to the Plaza for prosecco afterward, so we were extra fancy.

That leads me to the last piece of my Tiffany’s puzzle, which was deciding what to wear. I wanted to have a little vintage style reference, so I went with polka dots and a tulle skirt. Again, guys, everything I’m wearing is from Rent the Runway aside from my H&M earrings. (Click here for a discount on your first rental.) This C/MEO Collective top was so cute, albeit a bit different than expected. On a model in a look book it seems very chic and tame. On me it’s a lot of tit. Still cute though! I love that the wrap style feels very 50s, but the shoulder and shape of the sleeves are definitely 80s.

The skirt is by Badgley Mischka and is I really a perfect staple piece. I’m a believer in the power of a tulle skirt, especially in black. It’s chic and classic and feminine and a little whimsical. It’s something you’ll never stop finding ways to wear.

I went with a floral purse by Kate Spade to accessorize. I needed a little color with this black and white number. I usually need some color on me no matter what. I’ve never been one for all black and I have a nasty habit of always purchasing wild statement pieces rather than staples. You should see my shoe collection. It wasn’t until the last two years that I started forcing myself to buy some simple shoes. I still haven’t brought myself to purchase a black pump. I mean, it will happen sooner or later. When fashion week rolls around I may have no choice.

Last, but not least, I topped off this bad boy with some Saint Laurent studded sunnies. They’re like upgraded staples and you can wear them with most anything.

And thus, here concludes my Blue Box Café experience, which I highly recommend you do at least once in your life because everyone should feel like Audrey Hepburn for a moment in their lifetime. I just went two days ago and I’m already ready for a repeat. I’ll probably settle though for a croissant and coffee and some window shopping in the proper Holly Golightly fashion.

Dang, I love your outfit. How far in advance do you have to order them? The purse & top just are killers together. Of course the Boobs are a great addition. I have been to high tea at a hotel in Ft Worth, but nothing like your experience. Keep posting. ❤️

I think you can probably order a rental just a few days in advance, but I have an unlimited membership. You get four items at a time and it’s revolving, so you can return and get more as often as you like. It’s really amazing. I barely shop anymore! Where did you got to high tea in Texas? Dave’s mom lives in Dallas/Ft Worth area too. We really need to get out there for a visit one of these days.

    Claundine,
I enjoyed your comment so much, because you beat me to it to tell Lynzi that I love her outfit and accessories!!!!! I will say to you Lynzi that your twin assets are the bomb in this outfit. I agree about the tulle being so chic.
I’m totally hooked here on this blog. Oh, purses are my weakness for sure. I love my Dooney’s!

Your goodies were having me lusting for a bite. Robin Egg Blue is on my bucket list for a guest bedroom. I’ve been on the hunt for a perfect shade. Can’t decide on light version or just a great Robin Egg Blue!

Photography is superb of course! I felt like I was there!
    I’m enjoying living your life,
    Joyce

This all makes me so happy to hear! It’s been a while since I heard about Dooney and Bourke! I used to have two of their bags. I sold them a while back and just couldn’t get a good price for them. They made such a comeback though with those NFL crossbody bags!

I would definitely go with the lighter robins egg. I think it will look more chic and keep the room brighter. 🙂
